Beau’s goes fully green on electricity and natural gas

Vankleek Hill, ON – Beau’s All Natural Brewing today announced it is has partnered with Bullfrog Power to become the first brewery in Canada to choose 100% green electricity and green natural gas.

“This is an exciting achievement for Beau’s, and we’re incredibly proud to dramatically reduce our environmental impact,” said Steve Beauchesne, CEO of Beau’s All Natural Brewing. “Our principal motivation is the belief that beer tastes better when you can feel good about drinking it.”

Through the agreement, Bullfrog Power’s generators put 100% clean, green electricity and 100 per cent green natural gas onto the respective energy system to match the amount of electricity and natural gas Beau’s brewing operations use. In the case of green electricity, Bullfrog Power’s generators put 100% green electricity onto the grid to match the power used by Beau’s brewery.

Across Canada, Bullfrog’s green electricity comes from a blend of wind and low-impact hydro power sourced from new Canadian renewable energy facilities.

To date, Beau’s has implemented some of the following green initiatives:

  • Making all Beau’s beer with certified organic malts, hops, and botanicals, as well as local spring water.
  • Using 100 per cent post-consumer beer labels, posters, business cards, brochures, and coasters, as well as innovative enviro-friendly packaging.
  • Becoming Canada’s first Certified B Corporation brewery, which means that Beau’s achieves higher levels of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.
  • Creating the Greener Futures Project, a unique and limited beer club with the goal of helping Beau’s achieve its goal of becoming a totally sustainable brewery.
  • Implementing an employee carpool/ride to work incentive program.
  • Targeting and achieving a 50 per cent reduction in brewery energy use over a three-year period.
  • Working with local producers to develop a local, certified organic, raw materials stream-in 2014/15, Beau’s will source more than 20 per cent of its hops from Ontario farmers.
