Bellwoods announces new Motley Cru Barrel Blend 2014
Toronto, ON – Bellwoods Brewery this week announced the April release of its Motley Cru Barrel Blend, a beer brewed annually to celebrate Bellwoods’ anniversary.
This year’s iteration started as an IPA then subsequently barrel-aged with brettanomyces for 14 months and dry-hopped with both Citra and Mosaic hops. The beer was then bottle-conditioned with champagne yeast for 2 months finishing at 9.7% ABV.
“Given the long-term aging that the beer went through over most of 2013, it has emerged deeply oaky in both its aroma and flavour, exhibiting bold vanillins and tannins,” describes Bellwoods. “It’s extended affair with Brett contributes soft smoke and cherry flavours, and a characteristic dryness. And yet, the dry-hopping applied another, strangely complimentary layer to the beer, imparting intense aromatics of fresh lychee and fuzzy peaches.”
Motley Cru Barrel Blend 2014 goes on sale Sunday April 6, 2014 at 12pm at Bellwood’s retail store for $13 each. There is a limit of 4 bottles per person – only 1000 were made.
