Toronto – Bellwoods Brewery has announced it is fully phasing out its favoured 500ml bottle for the recently ressurrected 355ml beer can.
“We’ve been closely watching industry trends in the US and here in the province,” said Bellwoods co-founder Luke Pestl. “We strive to stay agile and cutting-edge, and we see a definite resurgence of the 355ml can. Many of our high-alcohol beers will definitely suit this size better.
A Wild Goose Canning system was installed at Bellwoods’ recently opened Hafis Road location while its Ossington brewpub deployed a smaller-scale canning system from CASK Canning Systems based in Calgary.
“Many of our beers are bottle-conditioned, but we’ve been consulting with Sam Corbeil at Sawdust City Brewing in Muskoka who has been a sort of pioneer is in the can-conditioned beer arena,” said Bellwoods co-founder Mike Clark. “Sam showed us how to avoid certain can conditioning pitfalls, especially exploding cans due to improper filtration and lack of quality control.
“This new can format is awesome, ” said brewer Carmen Vicente. “We’re excited to see everyone in Trinity Bellwoods park pounding these gems. But, as always, don’t forget to take the finished cans back home with you to recycle.”
The brewery goes on to say that they have just received new shipments of lupulin powder and humulone extract they plan to use in upcoming versions of new Milkshake IPA line destined for the 355ml format.
Bellwoods Brewery says they are now running through stock of its 500ml beers now and plan to have all future releases in 355ml cans by April 31, 2017.
April Fools!
