Bellwoods Brewery talks Motley Cru 2016 vintage
Toronto – Bellwoods Brewery today released details surrounding the upcoming release of Motley Cru, its annual birthday beer.
With each year comes a new iteration – the 2016 vintage of Motley Cru is ultimately a Wild Ale blend brewed with Gewürztraminer grape must-derived yeast and bacteria and subsequently barrel-aged in Tawse Winery French Oak barrels for two years then blended with a sour ale also concurrently aging on Fench oak reaching 8% ABV.
“We assume the presence of wild sacch (saccharomyces), various strains of brett, and a small army of lactic acid producing bacteria,” writes Bellwoods.
“The aromatics are distinctly bright and vinous, characterized by floral notes of geranium and lilac, alongside black pepper. The flavour has a nice acidity, and showcases complex layers of brett funk, citrus, white grape, apple, and lychee, within a dry, drinkable body. Perhaps what’s most exciting about this beer is that it establishes a strong, geographic tie to Ontario, highlighting unique, local ingredients.”
Motley Cru hits the Bellwoods Brewery retail store on May 14, 2016 in 500ml bottles for $13 each.
