Big Head Hops snags Meaford Agribusiness award

bigheadhopsBig Head Hops of Meaford, ON has garnered Meaford’s Agribusiness Award for 2013, edging out three other nominees for an award bestowed upon, “an existing agribusiness  that has invested in sustainable farming practices and has successfully developed innovative products, processes and marketing channels”, writes the Meaford Express.

Big Head Hops owner, Nicholas Schaut, has cultivated his farm from 1 to 5 acres over a short span having successfully propositioned the Dragons’ Den to provide $10,930 in funding. Schaut has since implemented processing capability for hops and supplies organic and specialty hops for numerous craft brewers in Ontario.

“His success exemplifies the agribusiness development goals of Meaford by targeting new distribution channels, creating innovative methods and practicing sustainable farming”, the Meaford Express described.

Schaut also resides as President of the Ontario Hop Growers Association.

The Agribusiness Award was presented to Big Head Hops by TD Canada Trust and the Meaford Chamber of Commerce.
