Black Creek releasing Sweet Stout
Black Creek Historic Brewery, in Toronto, will release its new Sweet Stout tomorrow, Saturday October 6 at the brewery only.
Traditionally called a milk stout, the Sweet Stout is a bold and sweet with a roasted grain flavour, garnering residual sweetness provided by the lactose added during the boil.
Because lactose is a complex sugar, the brewer’s yeast can’t digest it, yielding a sweet finish.
Milk beer, according to Black Creek, was first invented in the 1870s. John Henry Johnson applied for the first patent on a recipe for a milk beer in London in 1875. Milk stouts were primarily brewed in England, and became increasingly popular in certain areas of England.
The Sweet Stout will not be available at the LCBO.
