Block Three Brewing Co. aims for Canada Day opening in St. Jacobs
St. Jacobs, ON is now on the microbrewery map as Block Three Brewing Co. has earned the approval of the Township of Woolwich to operate its planned brewery at 1430 King St. N.
The new microbrewery hopes to open by Canada Day this year and serve beer by the glass on premises.
Locals Graham Spence, Derek Lebert and Bryan Maher formed Block Three Brewing Co. after a meeting of their local beer club.
“Six months ago, after a monthly beer club meeting, we all came up with the crazy idea of starting a microbrewery in St. Jacobs. We decided that we would take the idea as far as we could until we realized it was not feasible. Well, we now have a massive building and a crapload of equipment being delivered,” the brewery writes.
The name, Block Three Brewing, has historical significance – In 1798, William Wallace was one of the first settlers in the area after he was deeded 86,078 acres of land on the Grand River for a cost of $16,364. Originally Block Three of Indian Lands, this area now comprises a large part of Woolwich Township.
