Capital Craft Beer Festival: Not just for breakfast any more

Buoyed by success with their very first attempt, organizers of Ottawa’s first National Capital Craft Beer Festival expect an even bigger extravaganza next year after an astonishing 6,500 people attended last Friday and Saturday at Marion Dewar plaza outside city hall.

“The festival exceeded all of my expectations,” says organizer Jean Paul (JP) Fournier (photo, left), founder of the craft beer club Ottawa Beer TAP Society (as in, Tasting, Appreciation and Pairing — get it?).

“We had a great turnout of craft beer fans with a really eclectic mix of people who seemed to enjoy each other’s company. I found a lot of people making friends, which is not surprising when you get a group of people together who share the same passion. Diehard fans of craft brewing took newcomers under their wing and shared their knowledge.

“So I’m looking forward to Year Two. Plans have already begun and we’re already been approached by more breweries, restaurants and potential sponsors, so 2013 will be even bigger,” Fournier says.
