Details announced for The Great Ontario-Hopped Craft Beer Competition 2014

ontario-hoppedThe Great Ontario-Hopped Craft Beer Competition (GOHCBC) today announced the official call for submissions  its 2014 event.

The competition is open to commercial brewers, students in their graduating year of an accredited Ontario Brewmaster course and commercial hop producers in Ontario.

Following the success of its first-year run, the 2014 competition will focus on the American Brown Ale style while returning to the Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Convention (OFVC) at the Scotiabank Convention Centre in Niagara Falls during February 2014. Specific dates and times are to be determined.

The GOHCBC indicates the registration process for 2014 remains unchanged with the exception that hop growers must provide hop samples for a hop rub to ensure they are optimal for audiences learning about hops during the event.

“The winning entry will receive the Bottomless Cup Trophy for one year and acknowledgment on the Hop Production Page on the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Ministry of Rural Affairs website, The Grower national newspaper and other industry publications. Plaques will also be awarded to second and third place. In addition, we are adding an Honourable Mention award to be awarded at the judge’s discretion”, explains the GOHCBC.

Entries are limited to 15 teams with an intent-to-submit deadline of November 1, 2013.
