Former Northern Breweries building to be demolished in Sault Ste. Marie
The century-old building of now defunct Northern Breweries in Sault Ste. Marie, which operated for nearly 100 years from 1907 until 2006, is set to be demolished by its Toronto-based property owners.
The abandoned 1.8 acre site, which was purchased in April 2011, will be deconstructed and replaced with speculated condos. Local contractors will be utilized for the demolition.
Founded by three families in 1907, Northern Breweries operated out of both Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie and produced beers such as Northern Ale, Cream Porter, and Silver Spray Lager.
Closure of brewery was a result of a bankruptcy filing in 2006.
