Free our Beer campaign outfits 4,000 Ontario convenience stores with petition
The Free our Beer campaign, a group lobbying for beer and other alcohol sales in convenience stores, has begun distributing its new petition at up to 4000 member stores of the Ontario Convenience Stores Association (OCSA), hoping to collect 300-500 signatures each.
In 2012, the campaign’s online petition collected 112,500 signatures.
A story from the Hamilton Spectator quoted OCSA CEO, Dave Bryans, “We don’t want to replace the LCBO but people want more access. We can’t replace the shopping experience at the LCBO.”
Bryans also shared that a convenience store in Kingsville, ON, near Windsor, collected 500 in just two days last week.
A 2011 poll found that 60 per cent of Ontarians supported bringing booze to corner stores.
On Monday, it was announced that 7,500 LCBO workers would vote on a potential strike in April, which could limit access to beer in Ontario.
