Great Lakes and Picaroons team on 2014 Canadian Brewing Awards collaboration beer

picaroons-glbEtobicoke, ON & Fredericton, NB – Great Lakes Brewery and Picaroons Traditional Ales today announced its upcoming collaboration beer for the 2014 Canadian Brewing Awards in Fredericton, NB.

The collaboration is a tradition between the former Canadian Brewing Awards’ Brewery of the Year – Great Lakes Brewery – and the upcoming host city brewery. Picaroons is also a former Brewery of the Year winning in 2011.

The collaborative North American-style India Pale Ale, developed by Great Lake’s Brewmaster, Mike Lackey and Picaroons’ Brewmaster, Andrew Estabrooks was dubbed Eastbound and Down IPA. It features New Brunswick-grown Newdale barley and hops selected by Great Lakes.

As an added twist, the collaboration will be brewed via Skype, attributed to scheduling conflicts. “Due to the timing we unfortunately couldn’t get out to Fredericton to hang out with the guys from Picaroons,” said Troy Burtch, Great Lakes Community Manager. “After some back and forth discussion we thought it would be fun to come up with a concept and do the actual brewing on Skype.”

“We’re really excited to get out to Fredericton on May 29th to hoist a glass or three with Picaroons and the rest of our Canadian craft brewing brethren,” added Burtch. “Hopefully both Great Lakes and Picaroons will be successful at the Canadian Brewing Awards. It would be great to celebrate with some Eastbound and Down IPA.”

Eastbound and Down IPA will be brewed at both Great Lakes’ and Picaroon’s breweries, and will be available during the 12th annual Canadian Brewing Awards & Conference running May 29-31, 2014 at the Fredericton Convention Centre. It will also be sold through Picaroons’s Brewtique in Fredericton. Ontario availability was not immediately available.
