Growlers now for sale… at the LCBO

Updated

Kenora, ON –  For the first time, at least in present day, craft beer in the 1.89 litre growler format is now being sold through the LCBO – for two Ontario breweries.

Lake of the Woods Brewing Co. this week announced that its Sultana Gold blond ale is now available at two northern Ontario LCBO locations in Kenora and Keewatin, and soon as far north as Thunder Bay.

What this means in terms of precedent for the rest of Ontario is at the moment unclear.

Lake of the Wood’s Sultana Gold growlers are already being sold for $16 plus HST.

Regarding the question of freshness, Lake of the Woods owner, Taras Manzie, said they deliver the growlers directly to the LCBO locations frequently. “It’s tamper proofed with a heat seal and has all the bell whistles and trappings required by LCBO – ie language, date stamped, bar code, etc.,” added Manzie.

Lake of the Woods Brewing plans to extend growler sales to LCBOs in Fort Frances, Sioux Narrows, Dryden, Sioux Lookout and also the province of Manitoba.
