Hudak introduces Free My Rye Act for distillers
Niagara West-Glanbrook – Tim Hudak, Progressive Conservative MPP, has introduced Bill 203, Free My Rye Act to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, first read in May.
“There seems to be a dated view that somehow alcohol that’s in a whiskey bottle is worse than alcohol that’s in a wine bottle or a beer bottle,” says Tim Hudak to the Toronto Sun.
The new bill aims to tackle many challenges face by Ontario’s small distilleries, which are regulated differently and more stringently than the province’s beer, cider and wine producers.
Proposed changes include a reduction in markup costs by the LCBO and a distiller’s retail store and allowance of direct sales to licensees – bypassing the LCBO.
It is slated for a second reading.
