New London brewery named after the toboggan
London, ON – Jim Bob Ray’s, a London bar that announced in October 2014 it would add an onsite basement microbrewery has found a name – Toboggan Brewing Co.
The bar’s owner, Mike Smith, has enlisted Tom Schmidt, a Czech-born brewer with brewing experience formerly at Labatt and currently Spearhead Brewing Co., to develop his recipes.
“Smith said the toboggan is a authentic Canadian icon and the name was suggested by a family member who has researched the history of tobogganing in London. Two huge wooden toboggan ramps were constructed near Richmond Row in the 1880s,” writes the London Free Press.
