Nickel Brook sights set on former Lakeport brewery

Hamilton, ON – Nickel Brook Brewing could soon take over the former 50,000 sq.-ft. Lakeport Brewery facility on Hamilton Port Authority land, according to a story published today by TheSpec.
Negotiations are in progress, but if successful, Nickel Brook could add on to its currently maxed production, said Nickel Brook founder, John Romano to TheSpec. “We have about 15,000 to 20,000 square feet now and this is 50,000 square feet. But we are at our capacity now. We’re choking our production. I might as well not go on sales calls now because we can’t produce any more.”
The Hamilton site would act as Nickel Brook’s primary production site, keeping its current brewery in Burlington as its point for specialty and experimental brewing.
According to TheSpec, Nickel Brook is working collaboratively with Collective Arts Brewing – who enlists Nickel Brook’s Brewmaster, Ryan Morrow to produce its beer – to secure a deal on the Hamilton facility. The new partnership could operate under a new name.
In 2013, Nickel Brook purchased brewing equipment from the shuttered Sleeman brewery in Nova Scotia, which has been arriving in Hamilton. The former Lakeport brewery, however, requires substantial work, according to Romano who told TheSpec, “Labatt took a toll on that building. They took everything, including the drains, pipes and wires.”
