New funding initiative for Ontario hops growers
Meaford, ON – A new initiative announced this week spearheaded by BigHead Hops and Ontario’s Greenbelt Fund will see $30,000 in funding dedicated to enhanced market opportunities for Ontario hops growers to provide craft brewers more local ingredients.
The project, Growing Ontario Hops Forward: Expanding Existing Models of Production, equips Bighead Hops with the ability to pelletize hops and for local hop producers and local brewers in the community will be able to work together as part of a processing centre and distribution hub.
“Bighead Hops is excited to expand the opportunities available to hops growers across Ontario,” says BigHead Hops’ Nicholas Schaut.”The support of the Greenbelt Fund means reaching out to producers in the hops industry who may have never had a chance to connect with a large market in the past. Lending that helping hand in the processing and packaging part of the procedure goes a long way in producing a truly local product.”
The Greenbelt Fund, a non-profit organization, supports and enhances the viability, integrity, and sustainability of agriculture in the Greenbelt and Ontario.
