Ontario imported $7.13 million in hops in 2015, other updates
Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON – Canada has imported $17.6 million in hops so far in 2015.
The demand for hops by Ontario’s brewers continues to surge with imported hops reaching $7.13 million so far in 2015, accounting for 53% of Canada’s total hop imports.
Across Canada, hop acreage is estimated at 259.5 acres, according to the most recent update from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food & Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), with Ontario accounting for about 23% of that total.
These statistics and more were released as part of the OMAFRA Hops Update – August 2015.
According to the report, there are 32 commercial hop growers in Ontario utilizing nearly 60 acres of land – an increase of 300% from 2009.
