Celebrate the historic gruit ale today – International Gruit Day. Here’s a selection of Ontario gruit ales out now:
Beau’s Brewing has Lamb’s Wool Gruit – brewed with organic unfiltered apple juice, organic yarrow, organic cinnamon, and organic cloves – out now at the LCBO and brewery in Vankleek Hill, along with their Glacial Gruit available on draught and limited bottle quantities.
Brock Street Brewing in Whitby has brewed two new gruits including Dark & Stormy, made with bog myrtle, yarrow and wild rosemary, and The Golden Spike, produced with bog myrtle, yarrow and labrador tea.
Campbellford’s Church-Key Brewing has released a gruit ale incorporating juniper, sage, and, tansy – available today the brewery.
Garden Gate Gruit Ale – returns to Haliburton Highlands Brewing in Haliburton.

ISO Haze Cans, a New England-style Gruit by Wellington Brewery
The Second Wedge Brewing has created Gin Joint – a gruit brewed with juniper, angelica root, cassia, orange peel, coriander, and cardamom. Pick it up at the Uxbridge brewery.
Waller Street Brewing has concocted a barrel-aged sour gruit made with birch sap, spruce tips, and honey called Imperial Scotch River. Grab it today from the Ottawa brewery.
Wellington Brewery has released ISO Haze Cans, a New England-style Gruit brewed with mugwort, bitter melon, grapefruit and peel, and orange peel. Available in 473ml cans at the brewery in Guelph.
