The Hamilton Brewery plans Christmas opening in Steeltown

thbThe Hamilton Brewery will pin Ontario’s Steeltown on the microbrewery map at the end of this year, barring any delays.

The microbrewery, to be located in a 4,200 square-foot facility near Burlington St. and Wellington St., is spearheaded by Warren Pyper, butcher turned brewer. Pyper, a former military corporal, is a chef by training.

“Pyper had always been a beer drinker, (“a 31-year-old living in Ontario is conditioned to drink beer,” he said with a laugh) but his love of craft beers began when he travelled to New Zealand for a military colleague’s wedding”, writes the CBC.

The Hamilton Brewery will launch with three core brands with names relating to the city. The lineup includes a West coast-style  pale ale, Irish red ale, and IPA, according to the CBC. Seasonal beers are also in the plans.

Currently, Hamilton’s only operating brewery is at The Ship, which produces on a nanobrewery scale.
