Toronto Beer Week gets new owner, returns for ninth year in September

Toronto – Toronto Beer Week (TBW) has been acquired by St. Joseph Communications – the group behind Toronto Life – it was announced today.

The nine-day celebration, hosted every September for the last eight years, was founded in 2010 by Maz Bereton, John Bowden, Troy Burtch, Cass Enright, Ian Howes, Ron Keefe, George Milbrant, Craig Simons, and Rob Symes.

Since 2011, it had been lead by Burtch, Enright, and Symes with the addition of Gabriel Nijmeh as Executive Director.

“We are excited and pleased that Toronto Beer Week will be in the hands of a great team that will continue developing strong partnerships with bars and breweries to grow craft beer in Toronto,” says Nijmeh.

“Toronto Beer Week started with $2200 in a bank account and operated as a break even business – all funds generated from registration and sponsorship were immediately put back into TBW with board members not taking any pay,” notes Burtch, who is now the Marketing & Communications Manager at Great Lakes Brewery in Toronto. “We created and ran because of our love of the industry – to showcase the beer and the bars.”

This year, Toronto Beer Week runs September 14-22, 2018.
