Toronto Brewery District on ‘back burner’, wider initiative coming
Toronto – The proposed idea for a Toronto Brewery District first announced in January 2016 has been put on indefinite hold.
The concept to include 13 west Toronto brewers in a formal district was met with controversial reception by brewers and public alike.
Chris Conway, one of the head brewers at Folly Brewpub, explains, “We’re very excited about the growing community of breweries in the west end of the city and we’ve all been overwhelmed at the positive response to the idea of a “brewery district.” As the idea of a so-called “district” was never agreed upon in any explicit terms among the proposed members it remains – as it always has been – an idea on the back burner,”
“As a group we are excited about the city-wide idea of a brewery map (as being spearheaded by Jordan St. John and Robin Leblanc but which we hope will involve many media and brewery representatives) with Economic Development & Culture Division of the City of Toronto. It will benefit all the fantastic breweries brewing and in planning across this city,” Conway adds.
“For the moment, keep supporting your local brewery – follow them on social media and interact with them! – and stay up to date with all the events, collaborations, and conversations that are always happening in this great brewing province and city.”
Toronto city has about 28 bricks-and-mortar breweries currently with up to another 20 planned to launch in the near future.
